The second part of the Hamilton Island Media Conference featuring several of the top sailors of the world who competed in the Hamilton Island Race Week that held recently. In the Division 1 fleet, most of the sailors have the supermaxis, TP52’s and others not so big group of international and Australian media focused on the present changes as well as challenges that the sport is facing.
The Panel has people like Iain Percy from GBR, he is the double Olympic Gold medalist as well as the skipper of the Artemis Racing at the America’s Cup Regattas that held in 2013 and 2017. Here, he was seen sailing the supermaxi, Black Jack.
The second was the Rob Greenhalgh from GBR
He is the foiling Moths, 18ft Skiffs, as well as the champion of Volvo Ocean Race. He is sailing aboard the TP52 Ichi Ban in the Race Week at Hamilton Island. WouterVerbraak from NED is the other professional sailor taking part in the racing. He is a navigator and has sailed in four Volvo Ocean Races. He has also sailed in Sydney Hobart and Admirals Cup. At the Hamilton Island Race Week (HIRW) Verbraak on Alive, the Reichel Pugh 66.
Sharon Ferris-Choat from NZL is the double Olympic representative. She also raced in Volvo Ocean Race in the year 2001 and 02 as well as in the Extreme Sailing Series GC32 skipper. She was the one who led all-female crew of 40ft racing trimaran Ave Gaitana. It sailed 1800 NM from NZ to take part in the Hamilton Island Race Week (HIRW) and will finish the return voyage two-handed.
Others who have taken part in the event are Juan Vila from ESP. He is the six time competitor of the Whitbread / Volvo OR, the winner of America’s Cup and Jules Verne Trophy. He is the offshore sailing top navigator. At Hamilton Island race Week (HIRW) Vila sailed aboard the supermaxi Wild Oats XI.
