I found an in demand product/service with a good payout per sale that is not heavily promoted or saturated and with which I found some prime keywords that I felt I could rank for. I setup a site in December 2006 and put about 3 to 4 hours a month into it from December through April.

I collected $1,000 last month in affiliate commissions from that site. I have $700 in earnings this month on the 16th (tracking for about a $1,100 - 1,200/mo hopefully).

I bet someone will come along and say something like “if I had your traffic I could make $1,000 too” but guess what, I had only 10 unique visitors to the site yesterday. But the visitors I get are so highly targeted that they convert. You want to hear something even more sickening. I made the $700 in commissions so far with only 29 clicks out to the affiliate link.

I haven’t spent a dime on PPC. I did spend a total of about $40 for various services which helped me to establish some authority. I haven’t touched the site since May. I could probably tripple that if I put 4 hours a week for a few months into it (just haven’t had the time and am alotting it to other projects right now).

It’s not about picking the 5 biggest/best programs. It’s about finding the diamond in the rough. Read through my comment again entirely from start to finish. I gave you the entire formula here
