Question About Varying Anchor Text
By Marc on Oct 4, 2008 in Uncategorized
As I mentioned in my traffic and income report the main keywords I’m targeting are:
Make Money
Make Money Online
Make Money On Line
How To Make Money
How To Make Money Online
Money Online
In addition to these keywords I have 80 long tail keywords I targeting as well. Anyone who has checked on the make money long tail will know that the long tail contains 146 keywords, however some of them are typos (however, some typos get a lot of traffic) or they are keywords that aren’t going to click my ads or sign up for my ebook. So, 86 keywords it is.
My current keyword strategy is to get 5 links each for the above keywords to onemansgoal.com
Once I have achieved that I want to gain 5 anchored links to each one of my keyword dense articles that I have written.
Now my question will “make money” links to onemansgoal.com help http://onemansgoal.com/441/easy-ways-for-kids-to-make-money/ rank better for “kids make money”
Second question is will the links for “kids make money” to http://onemansgoal.com/441/easy-ways-for-kids-to-make-money/ help onemansgoal.com rank better for “make money”
I’m assuming the answer to both questions is yes. If this is the case I’m excited about my new strategy. Continue to build the links to the big time keywords I want to eventually rank well for while starting to dominate the lowest of the low long tail keywords and getting more traffic, adsense clicks and ebook signups while at the same time helping my main keywords.
All input will be greatly appreciated
Grizz, I included a link for you so you might stop by and offer some help.

Marc,
Well aren’t you clever…
The answer is indeed yes and your strategy is quite sound. You will end up ranking better for both long tails and your main keywords. BTW - I am seeing your site in the serp’s more frequently so things are improving.
Have you contacted G about your PR? Just curious how that front is going?
Keep at it Marc - you are on the right track now.

I have contact them multiple times but no answer back and no improvement. I’m not sure when aggresive optimism will let to them being made and me.
In the end as long as I’m still ranking I don’t care about page rank. ooooorrrrr is that wrong will my rankings improve with a higher page rank.
Anyway, I’m not going to worry about google and their biz but simply focus on mine.
Take it easy and thanks again for stopping by.

Marc,
Your own rankings are based on your keyword authority and not your PR. A low PR site can outrank a high PR site if it has more links containing the targeted keyword in the anchor text. PR is handy to have however if you are linking to someone else (or when linking to other sites you may own and want indexed quickly). It isn’t something to lose sleep over though - you can climb the serp’s just fine without PR.

Getting your PR back isn’t rocket science.
NOFOLLOW everything, your links, your affiliate ads, everything.
Go to G’s webmaster tools and apply for reconsideration. Explain in your message you have NOFOLLOWed all your links. Two months (or so) later your PR will be back. Unless you’ve been reported, as is probably the case with OMG, then it might take more work.

I don’t think I’m doing anything wrong.

marc, forget about the PR. Do like the reader above said and no follow everything. Keep your blog legit and it will come back eventually. Not to worry anyways as you have much more profitable niches you are now working on.
Besides, and here’s a scary thought, you would need to outrank both Vic and Griz to make money in this niche. I don’t know about you but I like easy targets:)
Personally, and this is just my humble opinion, I wouldn’t concentrate on this blog at all. I would just go where the money really is in the other niches and ecommerce sites. Don’t spend any time on this niche. It’s too much work, too much time, too much waiting, vic, grizz…man this niche is like a war zone.
Go bully around some wimpy but profitable niches:)

Its going to take awhile, but steady progress can be made every month towards the goal.

Damn Marc,
You’ve come a long way since you’ve purchased this blog. And honestly, you’ve picked up on the anchoring thing much faster than most people do.
And like Griz say, it is yes to both. Top tier keyword give your authority that helps with associated long tails and long tails boost your short tail keywords. In addition, its a nice way to vary your anchor text so you don’t Google bomb.
Don’t stress the PR, as long as you keep your rankings. It should return eventually.
I know you removed sidebar links and stuff, but were there ever any paid postings before your purchased? Maybe check old posts and nofollow any link you don’t know. Keep links to Griz and your friends, but you could nofollow old links to people you don’t know.

Didn’t “the thing” that sold you this blog do sponsored posts on OMG? You’d have to “nofollow” all of those too.
