Is A Spot On A The Yahoo Directory Worth $299

Lately I have been working quite a bit with my SEO Elite Software and exploring different niche markets that have good traffic with commerical intent. During this process I’ve looked through the links of the top sites and there are three directories that keep popping up amonst the top ranked sites.

Yahoo.com
Business.com
Botw.org

First off, I’m not talking about getting links from these directories for this blog or any niche blog but I’ve been thinking about purchasing a listing from Yahoo to try it out and see the results for my new e-commerce store.

Have any of you listed your sites on one of these directories? If so what were your results?

At first I assummed that these links must be good because the websites in which I found the links were ranked well. However, I have to assume that most people who buy these links are doing so because they are working their SEO and bought these links to add to links they aready head. To sum up what I just said, I think only serious people are buying these links.

Anyway, let me know what you think

Some people think a link from DMOZ is a trusted link in Googles eyes. Personally, I just get links from everywhere do follow, no follow or whatever. I just try not to get links from pages with tons of spam on them.

Don’t waste your money mate, you don’t need links from any of those. Directories don’t tend to send a lot of traffic.

Personally I havn`t been, deliberately, on a directory for years, rarely browse yahoo site, but that`s me. Why not test out the market with free organic SEO then see if your financial returns (or projected returns) can afford those extra paid promotions.

Simply stated, no. The return does not outway the outlay of $300. You are much better off submitting to free high PR directories. Dmoz is looked favorably upon by a few sources, but it takes forever for an editor to actually add one’s site. You can’t beat that it’s free. It doesn’t really make or break a site, it is kind of like an extra. Do it when you have time, and then forget about it.

For your eCommerce store, i would submit to google products database. ThisNext is a social shopping engine that is dofollow, i would become active there.

I would only recommend Google Adwords if you know how to use it, if not then stay away. It can get expensive fast. Or find someone who knows it well, such as an Adwords qualified expert. But just be very cautious with this.

I would look for FREE or LOW COST ways to do business first, before looking into the premium and paid options. Wait till your store is making a return, then invest accordingly.

A keyword rich domain name and a blog attached to your store is a phenomenal method for driving traffic to your store.

Do you have a blog attached to your store?

@First off thank you all for answering this question. First I wanted to state that I was looking at this from an SEO point of view not for traffic.

    @Missy - I’ll definatly check thisnext out

@Missy - I’m going to build a blog and send traffic and links that way. Is there an advantage to having the blog be attached to the store??? I’m also going to set up hubpages and a squidoo lens, plus the normal link building. Also I say a site that created sites with different IP address to help SEO. Actually I write a post about that check it out.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about it, but I’ve never tried it myself. I think that’s too much money anyway.

I’ve heard for SEO purposes it can be great, but I don’t know if it does much for traffic.

Dmoz is a good directory, and it’s free — but, hard to get into. I haven’t done much directory submitting myself; I should get to it.

I agree that those directories are amongst the top directories to get a listing in. It’s not a good idea to do it for your blog unless for some reason you have an unbelievably good blog that you want to experiment with.

However I also agree that it’s going to really do wonders for your store, good luck.

@Luis - I’ve applied to DMOZ many times and never have gotten a responce. It seems the general consencse is to just go for the free links and maybee is I can get past the top 5 get a link like that to go over the top.

@Amber - thanks for the advice
