I Need Advice On Privacy Policies, Return Policies And Shipping Policies
By Marc on Sep 5, 2008 in Better Blogging
I created my own privacy policy for my adsense sites due to Googles mandate. I took about three different policies and put them into my own words and placed them on my sites. However, for the e-commerce store I’m starting I was wondering do I need a new one??? Plus, with Return Policies and Shipping Policies what happens if someone just flat out says it better than you. Will Google penalize you for duplicate content if you are using someone else’s privacy policy??? Or even worst will I get a duplicate content penalty for have the same privacy policy across my network of niche sites.
Also, if someone has a return policy I like, is it a violation of copyright to use their policy, even if I don’t specify that it’s copyrighted.
Any and All input will be helpful. I’ve been spending my morning so far learning about resellers’ licensing and sales and use tax forms and collecting sales tax in Florida. Fun huh, but I only have to learn it once and then repeat the process over and over - at least that what I’m telling myself.

Duplicate content is a quirky issue. I’ve gone back and forth with this over and over. Sometimes I think dup content will screw ya, sometimes it doesn’t matter.
Philosophical question: If I copy your post here and put it on a blog, is it possible for my post to EVER outrank yours?
Say I get 10,000 links to my page and you just leave yours as it is. Will I outrank you? Yes. Grizz talks about dup content and said it was a ‘weak point’ in googles armor. I forget which post it was but he wrote it within the last month or so I think.
I don’t think the privacy policy page would count one way or another regarding dup content.
Marc, off topic but I noticed in your last vid (think it was the last one) that you were a bit dismayed with the way your blog is going. Money and pagerank and all that. You seemed to have a different tone in your voice.
with the benefit of some hindsight now, would you care to perhaps reflect upon your decision to purchase this blog and blogs in general?
To me it seems as though you have done a 180 regarding your approach to making money online. Your mindset seems to have changed and I’m wondering if you would openly discuss your feelings, for the true benefit of other noobs who might entertain the idea of purchasing a blog for a lot of money, about your particular experience. Now that some of the smoke has cleared have you changed your mind about anything or anyone?
See, you could write a post about that, stuff it full of keywords, and it will still be valuable to those who are new to the game.

Agree with Mary about the Dupe content for t&c stuff, its not really something your aiming to get in the SERPS anyway so it wont matter what Google thinks of it. You could always ask Google in your robots.txt to just not bother looking at it.
As for the wording.. legal stuff is to the word, no ambiguity, or in other words
you (and everybody else) can really only say it one way.

I know I took my disclaimer straight off another site, took out and just replaced the name of their site with mine. Nothing ever happened, I never noticed a slap or anything like that.
