A Cool Little Youtube Trick

Getting people to your website is hard enough, making them stay is a completly different story. You may have noticed that on my last post the youtube video autoplayed. Question, was anyone about to click away when they heard me talking and decided to watch? Anyway, I have some code for you that with automaticly make your video play once the page has loaded as well as loop the video once it has finished the code is:

&autoplay=1&loop=1

Where do you insert this???

Look at the videos embed code and look to see

1st) (Object width) “http://www.youtube.com/v/ffhKc4F - jeY>&autoplay=1&loop=1

2nd) (embed src) "http://www.youtube.com/v/ffhKc4F - jeY>&autoplay=1&loop=1

First remember you have to put the code in two spots. First spot read the code after www.youtube.com until you hit the & delete everything between that and the " and replace with the code.

Later everyone

    What’s up Marc?

    I’m sure some people don’t mind, but I personally find it annoying when videos autoplay. I like to have the choice of when to hear audio.

    Also, think of people who are surfing the web when they shouldn’t be. For instance, you probably have a few visitors who are working during the day and using the office computer to read OneMansGoal.com with the intent of finding ways to quit their 9-5. They don’t want Marc’s voice getting them fired! ;)

    In addition to that, as a subscriber in Google Reader, multiple videos will autoplay if a reader chooses to “view all”. Even viewing most recent posts will have two videos play simulataneously (any time you’ve had multiple videos in past few posts). That’s not a friendly experience.

    I’m not being negative, just sharing my personal preference. I understand your logic, but maybe you haven’t thought of the other side. Or, maybe I’m just a nitpicking freak that has to have control of everything.

    Either way, I’ll keep dropping by. ;)

    Cheers!
    Jay

    First thing I do when something autoplays is turn it off. Then I very rarely bother to listen to it later because I’m normally pretty annoyed.

    @Jay - I didn’t think of that at all. Good call. If anyone wants to use this trick go ahead, but it doesn’t sound like a good idea. I’ll stop doing it.

    @Mike - as said above I didn’t think of it that way, thanks for the feedback.

    Personally. I hate when I go to a webpage and music and videos start playing. I’d rather click them if I wanna see them.

    Going very well Marc. Thanks for asking. There are a few people taking part that are going to make quite a bit when it comes to selling off their sites.

    Let’s hope so Bryan. I have lots of work to do in the home stretch but it should turn out to be a good site for sale!

    @ Marc: I have to agree with a few comments here…that autoplay was quite annoying!

    @Jewish Marriage - Agreed

    @Bryan - hell yeah

    @TAP - Definately seems to be the theme, thanks for the input

    Thank you for the code and explanation. I am not too fond of videos that start playing at once when I open the page, but anyway - there is nothing bad in knowing something new:)

    @Polina - maybe there will come a time when you can use it. Thanks for stopping by

    Some are too easily upset in my opinion. I do get annoyed when the page loads and a very loud, very corny backround song begins to play. Autoplay videos dont bother me because they’re usually not that loud. And you can find the stop button easier than on those page music apps. My 2 cents, great post! Easy to follow directions. Would make a good survey also. How many are bothered and annoyed by autoplay apps on webpages?? Take care.

    Yeah you definitely don’t want 2 videos playing at the same time.

    I go back and forth about making my videos autoplay.

    Thanks for the tip. Now I know how to do it.
    But I would suggest that you only use it on pages, where the users comes to only from within your pages.

    Sort of thank you pages.

    Most people are not friends of immediate autoplay, when they arrive at a site. Yours John

    Nice post. Here are my thoughts about this. –Yours John

    auto-played media in blog is not really good.
    but you can still have it if it is important thing to show.
    atleast you also provided the stop or pause button for it. haha
