Introducing the Co-Op
By Marc on May 14, 2008 in Video Posts
Today will be the first day to sign up for the “make money online” co-op. The make money online co-op will be open to any blog in the make money online niche. The list will be maintained here at onemansgoal and the order on the list will be based on who signs up first.
The point of the co-op will be to help all involved gain links and traffic. The following will be accomplished in a couple of different ways.
1)You will be required to write a post on your blog explaining to your readers what the co-op is and the benefits in order to grow the co-op in size. Remember the more blogs we can get to participate and more links there will be to go around.
2)You will be required to write 2 posts per month highlighting a member of the co-ops blog. Who you choose will be completely up to you. It will encouraged that you read all the members blogs at least once so you can find a couple that you like and write a post highlighting one of their articles. At the end of each post you will be required to list all of the blogs in the co-op complete with links. This will be easy for you because you can simply come here first to find the list and repost the list I will be keeping track of.
By completing the second step you will be giving a link twice a month to everyone on the list, and you will be receiving a link from everyone on the list as well.
To sign up go to the contact page on this blog and shot me an e-mail. I’m going to give all of my readers a chance to get best position by signing up now. Tomorrow I’m going to collect the e-mail addresses of all the bloggers on 45n5 top list and e-mailing them as well to see if they would like to join.
Thanks for watching

Great stuff.
I just found your blog and love it.
Look forward to reading more.

Marc, while this does seem like a good idea… how are you going to handle the spammy type blogs that are going to eat this up? It seems like you’ll have people giving link love to sites that they probably wouldn’t otherwise… which is great, but makes it seem more like spam.
Perhaps more of a community-type system should be employed, with a list of blogs looking for reviews/plugs, allowing people to plug who they want. However, that feels like it’s been done before. Nonetheless, I will be interested to see how it goes.

I love the wire! Great show…
I also think that this is a wonderful idea, and can’t wait to see how it goes.

Nice one Marc!
Joe definitely has a point about how this is going to work and, without some sort of ‘boundary rules’ set in place it could get out of hand, but I guess some imput from those who take part could overcome this.
But I love the basic concept and it’s nice to see it in print as well as on video
I hope this goes well for you and everyone else involved and if carried out right I cannot see why it shouldn’t.

Marc,
Initially I found your blog when you first bought it. You were being thrashed rather harshly for making what appeared to be a beginner’s mistake on numerous other blogs and figured I’d come check it out. Now after a few weeks of daily checkins… I find you to be an interesting character. Interesting enough I’m now a fan and follower.
I’m a website designer/ developer by profession, wanna-b blogger, and SEO hobby shopper in my spare time. That said, I think your idea is GREAT with the exception of the last part of #2. From an SEO’s perspective, that system would be working towards useless if not even harmful.
If Google catches wind and determines that the links all circle each other, you’re sure to get sand-boxed. Now on the other hand, WordPress auto includes “No Follow” attributes so your linkage values would be null and void.
In closing, I’d like to mention that there a few of us out there who pride ourselves on the way that our blogs look… yes, even within the post pages. Number two would surely be nightmarish in that regard if you have 10,000 members join.
I have an idea though.. What if you offered a bit of code that members could use, much like an affiliate’s, that would randomly rotate images within a file on your server. Each member could create an ad (Example 125X125) ad and have it placed in the random rotation to be displayed at some point on each members site. This would make your system a bit cleaner, more manageable and less risky for your co-op members.
Anyway, if you need some help, let me know. In the meantime, keep up the good work!
-John

@ Piss-Biscuit
That would basically be a basic version of Entrecard.
@Marc
The general idea is a good one but it will take a hell of a lot of work to run it successfully.

Ahhh, one more thing. Like Biscuit said WP blogs use No Follow. Most bloggers use WP. So to gain any link love you would need everyone to remove the no follow tag. I can’t really see that happening. I guess bloggers will still be getting exposure though so it’s not all bad.
By Piss Biscuit on May 16, 2008 | Reply
@Funked: Yep, except you would have ZERO control over where or when your ad appears. With entre card, you bid for a particular spot, on a particular 24 hour period using credits both earned and bought. That said I have to agree that it will be a hell of a lot a work.
This method would be less work on behalf of the members… however, I think we agree the idea in general could use some serious thought. I think that there are a few to many “ifs” in the current plan, but maybe with some community brainstorming it could get hacked out.

A lot of people are pointing out what you could use to display these blogs.. and I initially thought widget! But then I think that’s been done before… so I’m interested to see how you’ll deal with it!

It’s funny.. When I saw the headline the first thing I thought of was fat-ass Prop Joe, and then you talk about the Wire… great stuff.

I read this blog a lot to get insights and tips. Its been up and down for me, but overall I really like all the stuff you say. My goal is to build traffic although there is probably a ceiling for me considering my topic. I’m not really trying to make money either, just get some consistent traffic.
Would this Co-op work for me?

In theory it sounds like a really good idea which could benefit the blogs that participate… but it sounds like a lot of work on your part to make sure that everyone does their part… There is no way to guarantee that it works and could have a potentially negative affect from google… because linking to all those blogs at the end of a post could hurt you especially if you are linking to pages with no pr…
its a good idea but the bugs should be worked out before you put it out there..
By Bryan Clark on May 20, 2008 | Reply
One Year Millionaire - Where did you get the notion that linking to blogs with no PR hurts you? It’s the number of outbound links on a single page, or linking to a “bad neighborhood” that hurts you (i.e. a link farm, or nothing but reciprocal links). You can link to just about any blog without having adverse pagerank affects.
I would just keep the number of links per attempt down. Say 20 or so.

No updates in a week now? This site is going to the shitter. I hope your 10k is refundable.
By Nick on May 21, 2008 | Reply
How is it going down the shitter? He’s doing a great job so far, things happen sometimes and people miss a few days of posts. When he’s going four months without a post that’s when you can say it’s going down the shitter, like the guy that bought wpdesigner.com… how come no one is talking about how he got ripped off?

Anyways, Stanley, if you so concerned about the sale and this dude’s money then do something to help him. It’s like your sitting back and hoping that he fails, don’t you got something better to do than to hate on someone for trying to make their life better? If you don’t like the site then don’t come to it, but don’t sit here and openly root agaisnt someone. What do you gain if he does crumble? Is that going to help you sleep better at night, or feel better about your obviously shitty life? Get a hobby, if you don’t like him, don’t watch him- watch TV. Don’t sit there and count someone else’s money, only women and chumps do that, chumps that can’t no money themselves.

Bravo Nick! Well said

Shut up, Nick, you clueless idiot. I couldn’t care less how much money the site makes. I was a subscriber and avid reader of this site before the sale. Now it seems to be updated far less often, and the entries seem to be geared towards people that are new to the internet, from someone new to the internet himself. I’m saddened at the loss of what was once a decent blog. I pop in from time to time to see if something might surprise me but I see nothing more than what an amateur can learn on “How to” pages.
By Nick on May 24, 2008 | Reply
He is new dude. Go back to the beginning of the site, it started at amateur status and graduated in knowledge as he graduated. Would you rather have Marc regeritate stuff he doesn’t know about like all the other MMO blogs, or tell stuff as he learns it? he’s takign teh same path Bryan did.
By Bryan Clark on May 25, 2008 | Reply
I think Marc knows that he has a lot to learn. But just like Nick said, my posts graduated in difficulty as my knowledge of the subject matter increased. It’s not an overnight process… I wish it was as simple as *poof* you are making $1,500 a month… but it takes months to get to that point if you are completely knew at it.
I wish more of the income had stuck around, to give Marc a good starting point… but he’ll get it, just like everything else, it takes time.
He’s progressing pretty fast, and I think we’ll see some fantastic stuff from Marc in the near future! His content is getting better with every post, although still geared towards his skill level… beginner. Trust me, as he learns, it’ll get more advanced.

I thought you were talking about digitalpoints co-op network there. I was about to ask how you were suppose to make money from it.
