Keep at it buddy, you’ll start to make Bryan numbers at some point!

  3. By Nick on May 1, 2008 | Reply

Bryan numbers? No offense to Clark, but the page rank dropping 2 points was something that would have happened whether or not Clark was still at the healm. You don’t lose page rank like that in the matter of 2 weeks.

I would not worry about the PR. The increase in subscribers show you are doing a great job!

Excellent post Mark! Your attitude and drive is something that all of us should learn something from. Congrats on the nice RSS increase. I too think that number is highly important especially if you want to generate more income from direct advertisers.

A couple other comments: 1) I would change all of the affiliate links over ASAP. From doing affiliate marketing for awhile now I realize it is tough but what I have seen from my own experience is a long stretch of nothing then someone will come to one of my sites a buy a thousand dollars worth of products earning me a nice fat commission. What if I waited one extra day to update some links and missed out on that commission. 2) I know nothing about video, but I think there is a way to embed advertising or Adsense or something in your videos to generate income. I would also learn how to do this ASAP and then upload each of your vblog videos (with their advertisements) to YouTube as soon as you make them. Anyway, nice post. I’ll be doing my Income Report probably tomorrow so stop by if you get a chance. Good luck on the closing too! Later.

George hit the nail on the head there. don’t worry about the PR as the subscriber increase is more important. I think you always knew the transitional period was going to be tough but you have been doing a great job Marc……and as Bill said, your attitude is spot on! Keep it up.

@Joe - I’m not planning on stopping anytime soon.

@Nick - I’m a little disappointing with the numbers as well. However, I find myself in this position. Two options get down and quit or work double as hard. You know what I’m going to do.

@West Covina Attorney - Exactly, first off I was expected the page rank, etc to stay the same, but I was expect to lost 50-100 Rss subscribers just because they/you all have a relationship with Bryan. I’m sure some people unsubscribed but that just goes to show that with the controversy with Vic lead to some of them subscribing.

@Bill - Thanks, I think the gurus what everyone to think this is brain surgery. Example one comment of my first post was making fun of the fact that I didn’t know how to use wordpress. It’s new at first but it takes like ten minutes to learn. I’m under the belief that anyone can succede in this game buy simply taking action and atitude will play a big part in that.

I just finished signing up for all the affiliate programs that link through the ebook (where a majority of onemansgoal income was coming from). So now all I need to do is activate the accounts and change links in easy link manage. There are just so many things to learn. :)

I need to do some reacher into put ads into video. I know once you get enough videos/video views you can get accepting into Youtubes partner program, where they will add ads for you and you can share in the revenue

29 days a counting until closing my first deal this quarter.

@Jack - I not giving up and no way I’m stopping

@Theaffiliatepost - Well said. I just want to stablize the traffic and please those of you who are readers now. If I make you all happy you will refer to my posts in your blogs. If you don’t have a blog watch the go daddy video, register a domain for you blog and wait for the hostgator set up vidoe

    Take action

@Marcus - Damn straight, I like my sign off too

@One Year Millionaire - Thanks man, I’ll keep the articles coming

Marc- It definately is a little disapointing, that’s a big drop off. I know people are telling you not to worry about it, and I mean you shouldn’t panic, but you definately should worry about it. Get out there and get links on sites with a higher PR. Everyone says Page Rank doesn’t matter, but it does. Since the update a few days ago I’ve sold a ton of ads just off page rank. It does matter people. It shows that you work hard on your site, that other people value it, and that your advertisers can feel safe that you will continue to work hard, and that they are getting onboard with a valuable, credible, site.

On a side note, my damn facebook page jumped on to a page rank six! Which is a little discouraging considering that I’ve done nothing to that page, and it’s a point higher than the website I spend ungoldy hours trying to improve.

Any chance you got Google slapped?

I noticed your sidebar links are for pay and don’t carry a nofollow. Google likes slapping bloggers for that. You might want to contact them and see if something is wrong that you can correct. PR 4 to PR 2 seems pretty heavy. Your links changed, but thats a big drop in PR.

    Just to know, check out:
    http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35843

Here they talk about needing to add the nofollow:

    Might be worth checking out

    Marc,

Nashville reminded me of my third point I was going to make and totally forgot–yeah, I am pretty sure Google does not like the selling of links without the nofollow attribute added. Now, I have no idea how Big Brother (uhhh…I mean Google) knows that people do this BUT I recall not long ago Tyler Cruz was selling text link and his blog got slapped down to PR0, he removed them and lo and behold it’s back. Just something to think about.

Oh, yeah one last thing…I am SO stealing your quote: “This isnt get rich quick, its just get rich.” :)

    Hi Mark,

Your videos are definitely getting better, keep up the good work. I liked your video, its was good and I dont think people will laugh at you. Its a difficult time switching blogs over from one blogger to another, but you have done great gaining rss readers.

My Rss readers have stayed on about 320 for a while now!

    Catch you soon,
    Gavin

@Nick - I agree that page rank effects the value of my links. Question??? do add no follow to the links you are selling. I know I need to go about adding more links, however, just to gain PR with links to lose it by selling links, I’m confused. Thanks for you comment looking forward to your opinion on this.

@Nashville SEO Zombie - I might have been slapped but I don’t know why. I haven’t made any changes and I just have Bryan look at the way I wrote my sweet links and 125X125’s.

I check out all three of your links and I thank you for adding them. But if I add no follow to my links won’t they be worthless.

Also, does PR effect search engine results. If this is true why does the top 5 ranked sites for “make money online” have
    1)moneymakerinfo.blogspot.com (2/10)
    2)www.bidvertiser.com (6/10)
    3)www.carlocab.com (4/10)
    4)entrepreneurs.about.com/od (6/10)
    5)makemoneyforbeginners.blogspot.com (4/10)

@Bill - Good Point, please take the line and spread it around

@Gavin - Thank you, we are both in the same situation on taking over others blogs and video posting. Any advice for a newbie.

@Everyone - this is what blogging is all about. I love you guys. Lets help each other make it. Thanks for all the advice and help. Marc

    Marc,
There really is no easy answer on the advertising. On the one hand, people want the PR when they look for links. But when blogs appear to openly sell links, they get slapped with a reduction on the PR.

This is particularly true for blogs that write paid reviews that pass on PR.

In my opinion, your blog has increased in value because you have increased readers. Its not that difficult getting PR these days. A lot of brand new websites have a PR 3 simply by participating in the forums at Sitepoint, Digital Point and other well known forums. But getting readership is really the difficult thing which you have been a success at getting.

I think when you get a potential advertiser, sell them the reasons why they should advertise in terms of traffic. Obviously you do have to continuously develop back links by participating in the blogging community which are already doing. You got tons of back links with all the buzz when you bought the site.

I am confident your site will be back at a PR 4 or possibly PR 5 at the next update. You have to understand this past update is a snap shot of the PR that is probably of what it truly was before you bought it. Because the Google toolbar only updates about four times a year, you really don’t know the PR of the site when you actually bought it.

The more objective standard is the readership. You have clearly done an impressive job adding readers and that is what counts! A blog with 25,000 readers with a PR of 3 is worth more in monetary value than a PR 5 blog with 12 readers.

    Marc,

Another factor I would suggest considering is the percentage of original content, ie your guest bloggers.

Some of it is copyscape safe, but I would suggest that copyscape isn’t as thorough as Google is.

I would suggest posting more and using fewer guest bloggers that have posted “similar” articles elsewhere.

Besides, you’re way more interesting/informative/entertaining than they are.

Keep on keeping on. Staying on task in the face of open criticism isn’t always easy. Hats off to you. I’ve been through the slap with my PR6 dropping to 3 - life goes on. =)

sad for ur PR drop .. not that it effects SEPRs .. but its a point of EGO !

Anyways keep up the good work ..

Marc, as the owner himself, I’d like to hear how you evaluated a blog’s worth. It might be a good post topic… There’s been dollar estimations on how much each subscriber is worth, but what are your views between social traffic and organic traffic?

Also, if you are viewing this as a long term investment, why not start a new blog itself? But I wouldn’t argue that you had a head start on the publicity which would have been tough to crack as a new blog in a very competitive market.

In any case, I look forward to watching more of your videos.

@West Corvina Attorney - Thank you, I agree

@Jack (Austin) - I’ve taken care of that. There will be no more regular guest posters. Unless it is a once in a while thing if someone puts together a great post and whould like it on this site to gain more traffic for their own site. Check out the become a guest blogger tab at the top.

@Robert MacEwan - Sorry about the slap, glad to see you back on track. The negative people have only inspired me more. Check out the trackback from the net fool makeing fun of the 27 dollers. I’m excited because he gave me a hard time at the beginning running with “Vic’s Posse” when he keeps checking back to see me fail and I start making money, I’ll have a new reader

@Nishu - Thanks, but no ego here. I just want to make it

@Investing for Beginners (Marium) - I didn’t us a fancy metric. I bought it cause it felt right, that is it. Also to answer why I bought this site as opposed to start one up if it is a long term investment. I would simply say that I belong there is a “long term value” per reader. Now I don’t know what that value is but it is why hostgator will pay you $50 dollers per sign up on a 9.95 hosting plan. Also I think along the same lines as Max (the guy who bought blogging experimnet) check out his article here http://bloggingexperiment.com/archives/what-website-buyers-want.php

@Backlink - Thanks man, do it, add the ads

    @Nick - E-mail sent

    $0 income? Wow.

People here aren’t honest enough… that is a terrible number. I would seriously consider reselling this thing or completely revamping it with some new initiatives. Clearly things aren’t going as planned.

  25. By Marc on May 5, 2008 | Reply

True. 0 sucks, but the people here are honest and real. They see my objective was to make money the first month. My goal was to connect with the readers. My opinion is if I get traffic I’ll make money.

But anyway, thanks for commmenting. The revamp is in order: no more guest post - new focus on video blogging. Have a great day. marc

Its so hard to make money nowadays with Google keeping an eagle’s eye on everyone. But i guess you can still win if you follow by the rules. Keep up the good work.

Wow, I never came across this blog before. I make money blogging but in a totally different way than you are trying to. I never connect with my readers…in fact I hardly have any readers on any of my 55 or so blogs. No one would dare advertise on my blogs either:)

But I make my money with niche blogs that are more like sites than blogs. I do this full time too. I just don’t understand what the whole feedreader count thing means. The only blog I ever had with readers was my first blog…and I never made any real money with it. Go figure…

One thing I have learned though, and you might be interested in my advice since it seems you are new to this business, is that all traffic is not created equally. Your readers will read…organic traffic with a need clicks…that’s why I don’t do stumble and digg. The traffic from those kinds of places is bad traffic. The people who come from the sites are usually smart and savvy. They make the worst clickers of all! In my experience it’s folks who know nothing about online marketing that click like crazy and make me tons of money.

I hope this blog works out for you and your attitude is commendable. Just a thought… perhaps you should start a few niche blogs to make some money and keep this blog as your personal blog where you can interact with friends and readers? Just a thought.

I wish you the best my friend and hope to see you successful soon!!

p.s. if you have any questions or need advice on getting traffic that pays or whatever just email me as you seem like a really nice kid and I’d like to help you out if you need it. And no, I’m not selling anything!!! Just offering my (yes free) help…if you want it.

    Cheers
