I’m not very happy to have to report that One Man’s Goal is no longer a Do Follow blog. I didn’t want to have to do this, but I’ve been getting spam comment after spam comment, and some of them are missed. Some of the comments I’ve been getting aren’t exactly spam, but they aren’t relevant either. For example, a comment might have the anchor text of “buy cheap watches” and then a comment like “nice blog”. Well, this is the quickest way to get me to delete your comment.

You see, when you pass juice on to another blog, it actually starts to pass some of your PageRank with it. It’s a very small amount, so don’t get nervous, but it is enough to make you think about how many people you link to. And I don’t mind linking and spreading juice to real blogs. Especially the ones that take the time to comment here with something that might be helpful to others… but spam sites…. I hate!

One of the things that helps you (in Google terms), is linking, and being linked to by RELEVANT sites. Well, when people leave comments with anchor text like “Florida Tooth Whitening”, that’s not really relevant to OMG. Plus, I like to answer my comments and start conversations in my comment field… and it’s hard to address someone as “Florida Tooth Whitening”.

I’ll look into other ideas, like selectively removing “nofollow” tags for readers that aren’t spammers… but this is how it is for now.

Still want a little link love from OMG? Comment often! If you make it into my “top commentators” in the sidebar (which resets monthly) those links have “nofollow” removed.
