Surprise! It Feels Good To Be Home

Well, let me preface this entire post by saying that this is Bryan Clark (the original owner) writing. I told all of you that I had a surprise for you, and I wasn’t kidding. This one even surprised me a little. If you read Austin’s previous post, then you probably were aware that something was about to happen… well, it happened!

So What Am I Doing Here?

Well, I noticed that Austin hadn’t been posting all that frequently, and having regular contact with him I knew that he was a VERY busy guy - running his own business, online endeavors, etc. So I decided to take a book out of Austin’s playbook about buying websites direct, and it went something like this.

Austin, you seem to be pretty busy lately. What do you think about selling One Man’s Goal back to me, so that you can clear that from your plate and focus on what has been profitable for you?

Well, I said it fully expecting a resounding NO WAY to be the answer. But to my surprise, Austin was interested in working a deal. So we did! Now, Austin, and myself both agreed not to disclose the exact purchase price, or some other inner workings, but I can tell you this… due to Austin’s lack of time, and my drive to spend cash before it burns a hole in my pocket - I was able to get One Man’s Goal back at a discounted price, in exchange for some “consulting” work that I’ll be doing for Austin in the future (details on that aren’t available either… sorry).

So, I bought back One Man’s Goal, which makes me happy. Austin has one less thing on his plate, which makes him happy. I got a discount (I’m happy), Austin gets some free labor out of me (he’s happy). Everyone wins in this deal. Now as long as YOU are happy, we can all continue living in the happy place which is known as One Man’s Goal.

I have quite a few ideas that I’m interested in implementing, and I’ll be churning out more useful information than ever. I can’t wait to resume work here… but, I want to take a second to thank Austin for the work he has done, and being kind enough to give me a good deal on the re-purchase of One Man’s Goal. I wish you lots of luck buddy, and I hope that when we both unlock “millionaire” status, we can hit up a vacation!

Sound off! What do you think about this transaction? Was it wise for me to buy One Man’s Goal back at a discount? Was it wise for Austin to sell? What do you think? I’m curious, so indulge me! Oh, and one more thing - during the next few days the site might be offline for up to 24 hours while we transfer the domain and the database back to me. So don’t fret, I’m not going anywhere… it’s a necessary evil!

And in case you were wondering why Austin’s face is still in the sidebar, he still technically owns the site. The payment is complete, and both sides are content… but we are waiting for the nice people at Escrow.Com to complete the transaction so he can release the domain and database to me. So until then, he was gracious enough to create a user account for me on here so that I can still post.

Wow! What a ride! Glad to see that all is going smoothly—on either end. Let’s see what 2008 will bring! Happy New Year, to you both!

Well, all is right with the world again. I’ll miss Austin, I enjoyed his stories, they were compelling, and always entertaining. You have a good writing style Austin, a knack for tellign stories. We had words, then somehow, through me pissing him off, he’s become somewhat of an adviser for me as I navigate through the internet, and has provided me with some great advice. You’ll have to come back and do guest post when you have time.

Austin is always welcome to come back and submit a guest post. Glad to see two familiar faces as the first to comment.

Congratulations Bryan you adventurous DotComPreneur. I have enjoyed getting to know Austin and hope he launches a blog somewhere about his entrepreneurial pursuits. He has so much to offer.

Glad to have you back, Bryan!! I was very surprised when you had an offer to sell One Man’s Goal originally and turned it down … and then ended up selling it to Austin for much less than the first offer … and now you’re back, but that doesn’t surprise me! Best wishes to your continued success!!

Welcome back Bryan!!! I will be looking forward to more frequent posting here… Tried keeping track of you over at Bryan’s Journey, but it wasn’t the same. Congratulations!

  12. By Bryan on Dec 31, 2007 | Reply

Not really Mike. I did regret it for awhile, but then I realized that had I not sold it, I wouldn’t have had the money to start a few other projects, which net me enough money to work for myself now, from home.

And besides… I actually profited from this transaction. It was kind of a blog lease if you will.

Sorry Bryan I wasn’t the first to congratulate you this return because I was busy lately.

It’s great to be back and I hope you will NEVER do what you did with OMG again !
You better continue what you’ve started and start telling us about monetizing blogs and specially TRAFFIC BUILDING !!
I hope that you learned something from this experience..
What I learned from what’s going on here that “Keeping a website and working on increasing its audience pays better than selling it early.. a little bit late but it does”

I’m sorry for bryansjourney.com which has started to gain some audience but the story ended very early…

Now I hope you’ll start to tell us about your network : atommagazine and the other Tech blog ( I found it somewhere …It’s not a secret anymore :P)

Cass, your still holding your groud on that assessment. If anything, what I learned, is that Bryan has defied all odds and somehow has figured out how to have his cake and eat it too… it doesn’t even make sense! it kind of pisses me off. lol…

    Yeah maybe I’m exaggerating …:P .. But I’m really glad he’s back..

Welcome back Bryan. Good to have you around again.

As for whether you were wise to buy OMG back, only you can answer that. Presumably the circumstances that were in your life when you decided to sell it have changed and you can now give it all the attention that you felt you couldn’t do back then. It’s always good to be at the helm of your own flagship and I suspect you have missed that Bryan.

    So once again, welcome back.

Karen - They’ve changed considerably. I used the purchase money to invest in a few other internet endeavors that are paying huge dividends. I get to work from home now, so GOAL accomplished, and I have my site back. What a great new year!

Welcome back and I hope the New Year will bring your goals closer. I will be watching your suggestions about monetizing your blog as I had got my toes wet in that regard before the Google debacle, but I completely lost my Page 4 rank and also lost what little income I was making, like so many others. Since then I had to move from Blogger due to technical problems and am now at Wordpress.com. I bought a domain name in case I have to move again. My latest consideration is getting my blog hosted, if I want to try monetize once more so will be very interested in your efforts.

    Wow bro, congrats!

No offense to Austin whatsover, I heard he’s a cool guy…but once you left, pretty much so did I. More so because I (like you and others) were busy at that point in time.

Had to stop by after hearing you were back…and it’s really cool to see all the familiar faces. You’ll regain audience in no time at all.

I have a really fun (and helpful) blog that I plan on launching within the next week or so, so maybe you could throw a few plugs my way =D

    See you around - Ryan
