Free Blogging Experiment

After reading the wonderful guest post yesterday, my head has been spinning with possibilities. I have decided to give Joe’s methods a try. I’ll make sure and report all of the details of this experiment. I am weighing the possibilities of this and I have come to this conclusion. I don’t think that you can build relevant search engine traffic fast enough to make money off of a buzz-worthy topic. I’m all for giving it a try though.

Here’s what I am going to try.

  1. I am going to create a free (disposable) blogs that utilize high paying keywords.
  2. I’ll produce about 10 keyword dense articles. I’ll utilize my target keywords and any other keywords that are relevant to the traffic I am trying to receive.
  3. The only monetization methods will be Adsense and a relevant affiliate program.
  4. This experiment will last 30 days and then I will report my findings.

This is a free experiment, so the only thing it will cost me is time. I’ll be sure to report any and all results of the experiment right here on One Man’s Goal.

Wish me luck!

    Bryan,

I highly recommend that you check out http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com. This is an awesome free Internet marketing program done by Ed Dale. I participated in it in August and it taught me how to do exactly what you are trying to do.

I think you should make one investment into it: buy domains for the blogs. Use Blogger and the custom domain feature. It will give you much more options in the future, since you can later sell the blogs, or just the domains. It any of them get PR, you’ll be able to easily cash out on them later.

Sutocu - I don’t want to go through the trouble of buying a domain and paying for hosting. It’s just an experiment and I’d like to keep it free. As far as PR goes, that’d be unlikely. I won’t be updating this blog, so therefore I’ll be less likely to get any incoming links. It’ll just be 10 keyword rich posts and we’ll see what happens.

Where are you going to place your adsense bryan?

  6. By Joe on Oct 12, 2007 | Reply

This is a really interesting concept, and I like the idea. It does seem like it would be a lot of work but it could be worth it! I don’t have the time for it yet, but it would be nice if I could get something like that started as well!

where can i get a french white hat like yours?

  8. By Bryan on Oct 12, 2007 | Reply

mahdi - It’s actually not a French hat. It’s an old newsboy cap. There is a hat store in St. Louis that I love… You can get it there. I’ll buy you lunch :)

Kenneth - I’ll have to experiment and see what works best on that site!

Wish you good luck bryan, today I just opened another blog similar to tricks but i called it tips so “ipodtouchtips” lol.

I haven’t setup the feedburner yet, but I will.
In your experiment don’t forget to add that blog to your google analitycs this will help you get on google faster and also submit your blog to submitexpress

PS:I wrote my results from experiment :) I also added a graph to it so you can see it works as long as you are on top 10 ranks by google.
I noticed today I am on no.4 if you type “ipod touch tricks” my traffic got down for about 200 visitors so far.

@Mahdiyusut: Ebay brother ebay is the keyword! :)

    Brain,

I’m also doing the thirtyday challenge, it has a lot of interesting SEO information (and its free). I plan to use the 30 day challenge techniques on my Build a Niche Store site that I’ve been writing about. The site is not quite ready to reveal yet, although it’s getting close.

Please don’t tell what websites are you going to do the tests, reveal them until the experiment is over

  14. By Terence Chang on Oct 13, 2007 | Reply

I agree with icedragon. Don’t let us know. Otherwise, we will all going to check the site out, which is not going to tell the true story.

  15. By Sutocu on Oct 13, 2007 | Reply

Bryan, I didn’t say you should pay for hosting. Buying a domain is (more or less) a one time fee. You can use the Blogger ‘custom domain’ option, so you won’t have to pay for hosting. Sites with real domains have so much more potential that I think you should invest a couple of dollars per blog for some cheap domains.

Regarding PR, even static sites get it once they get old enough. And even domains with no PR have value if they’re old. You don’t have anything else to lose but a few dollars for the domains.

Don’t worry guys. I don’t plan on revealing the site until the experiment is over.

something is wrong with the front page of your site. When I click on the individual story link it lines up properly, but the right sidebar isn’t appearing properly it’s all out of whack. I don’t know if it’s IE, or what but you might want to check that out.

    Hey Bryan,

I actually think that this is everything that’s wrong with the whole making money online thing. The web is cluttered with crappy sites that just rehash old information targeting high paying keywords. This has been done to death and getting this will work will be really tricky unless you stumble onto some new, great keyword combo.

I’m assuming you won’t be passionate or knowledegable about your new blogs’ chosen topics but I could be wrong. If you are going to provide some useful, interesting content that provides value to the reader then fair play to you. The problem I have with this approach is that most people who play this game are just in it for a quick buck.

I’ll be interested to see how it goes but I’m a bit dubious about the whole thing. I might write a post about it, actually. :-)

Well.. I tend to agree with Kirsty. I found it hard to attract viewers if you don’t really know what you are talking about. You have to know your topic well in order to provide some useful information for your viewers.

I think your onemansgoal is a great place to attract your viewers. You have done it very well. I watched you grow since day one! Great job!

I hope you make a lots of money off your free blog. However, I also hope you write blog for your viewers.

    Keep it up!

This blog will always be for viewers first. The other blog is just an experiment. I don’t have high hopes on whether or not it will work, I just want to prove or disprove my theory.
