Does Blog Rush Deserve Another Chance?
By Bryan Clark on Oct 9, 2007 in Tools
There has been so much controversy surrounding the release of this little widget that you would have had to be blind to miss it. For those of you that don’t know, you can read my initial post about Blog Rush.
It bombed upon release… does Blog Rush deserve a second chance?
Absolutely!
John Reese and his crew have put a lot of work into making sure that the Blog Rush widget succeeds it’s second time around. It’s beta launch was largely unsuccessful due to enormous hype, and very little follow-through. It was a good concept, but it just wasn’t all that they had visioned for it. Blog Rush met with an overly-critical and extremely skeptical group of bloggers, and ultimately… it started to disappear from blogs everywhere.
Is Blog Rush back?
I’m not sure that it ever left. The thing most bloggers forget is that it was a “BETA” launch. Did they release the widget too soon? Absolutely. It needed a lot more testing and a few more tweaks here and there. One of my biggest complaints about the Blog Rush widget is that I can’t adjust the size. If it doesn’t fit in my sidebar… I’m really out of options. John Reese - Get on this!
I’ve always rooted for this widget to succeed just because it was such a phenomenal concept. Right before they announced they would be releasing “significant changes” to the widget - I started to wonder how much longer I’d be seeing these things. I have a pretty good network under me, I have quite a few pageloads daily… yet I haven’t seen A SINGLE HIT from the Blog Rush widget. It was starting to look pretty glum. I even took the widget off of One Man’s Goal about two days ago because I had assumed (like most others) that it was a total bust.
What Now?
The updates to the Blog Rush widget sound pretty significant. They address some of the major concerns that other bloggers had about using it. I fully expect John Reese to MAKE THIS WORK. If he doesn’t… he’ll just be another piece of internet history. Good luck John!
