Google PageRank Updates In Progress?
By Bryan Clark on Sep 27, 2007 in News

This morning, I was checking the comments in a post that I wrote on the 21st of this month and I noticed something strange. I had a PageRank! Kinda… I hit refresh about a dozen times, took a screen shot, called everyone I knew, and then it disappeared. Oh Google, how you break my heart. Here is the screenshot that I took of my moment of joy. Click the picture to see the full-sized image. Both of the PageRank indicators I use are highlighted in blue and yellow.
As you may have noticed, it no longer exists. I don’t know what this means, but it’s quite possible that Google is working on our long awaited PageRank updates. I checked the data centers that day and they seemed normal, but with Google, you never know.
Anyone else notice anything strange happening with their PageRank?

Hey Bryan,
When I click the picture to enlarge it, I get a 404 page. What did Google say your pagerank was?

Ya your image doesn’t work. I’m sort of half wanting the update and half not. I have some new sites that I’m looking forward to getting some PR for but some older, neglected sites that might not do so well.

I always say that I don’t care about PR, but I’m a big liar as I always read these types of blog entries with special interest!

Earlier this month Search Engine Round table reported that Matt Cutts of Google said not to expect any page rank updates
“As far as the toolbar PageRank, I definitely wouldn’t expect to see it in the next few days. Probably not even in the next couple weeks, if I had to guess.”
This is the url where that story appeared.

I was able to check out the graphic through your comments, but I thought it was amusing when I got to your Error Page.
Easy, tiger.
Fun!

forget PR now and just concentrate on your blog.
Google will come up with something good ofcourse!

Same thing happened to me a couple months ago. I didn’t care about it then, but if it happened now, I would go crazy.

I’ve heard and read similar reports on DigitalPoint, and elsewhere, but it seems that the reason has most often been a problem with the toolbar, or a connection. Checking Smart PageRank, I see all zeros for your site.
I’m not sure, but I’m guessing it means nothing. The post by Matt Cutts appeared originally on Digital Point, btw, unless I’m totally incorrect. It was a couple of weeks ago, and said practically nothing (though the quote above is correct).

Ah, another victim of the Google PR bug. Patience, my friend, patience. Good things come to those who wait.
(Boy, did that sound like a cliche or what?)

The link is working now. Thank’s Alex for finding the actual link!
A PR5 would have been pretty sweet.

Google is a bit frustrating and I’ve actually heard rumors that Google may be getting rid of the whole Page Rank algorithm altogether but I’m not really sure if I believe it.
All I know is that I’ve been stuck at a PR3 for months and I’m really hoping I’ll be moving up after the next update.

Very good job on your blog! I know people say PR is not important but it’s still nice to have one ;).
Your traffic rank from Alexa is great! The PR will come…

I hope I hit a PR of 5+ =).

I want my PR and I want it now. =)
It’s easy to say you don’t care when you have an older blog, but I would like my two new ones to get a PR sometime this decade.

Sup Bryan,
Yeah thats actually happened to me a lot on various pages.
What seems to happen is when you are on a page with a pagerank and then either click through onto a link or enter an url in..the pagerank bar doesn’t update.
Had it happen quite a few times on sites that were only days old. It stops and makes you only wish. ;o)

I just had this happen to me too! And I see where Andrew above said it could happen after being on a page with a PR and it not updating. But I was on a PR3 site and when I went to my site it said PR was a 6! I refreshed and it stayed the same. I took a screen cap and 5 minutes later it is back to PR zero.
Hopefully they really are updating it!
