How To Get More Comments

How popular is your blog in the comment category? Statistics show that between one and five percent of people that visit your site will take the time to leave a comment. My average is over double that. Why? Because my readers are awesome! Getting awesome readers takes some work on your part though. Here are a few ways to generate more comments on your blog.

  1. Interact with your readers - This is the number one way to increase your comments. It takes time, but after a while… it pays off huge! I get readers that comment on every single post I make. Go ahead, check it out! These readers are just flat out awesome. Some of them were born that way, others I had to mold. The easiest way to mold a reader into a repeat commenter is to talk to them. Answer their questions, offer them help, tell them how much you appreciate them. These readers generally turn into compulsive commenter’s… and I love it!
  2. Send them an email - This method isn’t just beneficial for your comment field, it also helps your blog to gain repeat visits. Society is pretty hectic today and people often genuinely appreciate someone that they feel went out of their way to thank them. Do this often!
  3. Answer questions - About 50% of the comments you get will be questions. Answer them! They didn’t ask so that they could look cool by commenting on your post. They want help, and they thought you were enough of an expert to ask.
  4. Comment on their blog - When someone leaves you a comment. Return the favor. It takes a few minutes to read their latest blog post and to comment. For the few minutes you spend there, you might have just gained a loyal reader. Good enough for me!
  5. Ask for feedback - Engage your audience. Dont just throw a post out there and expect people to say “Wow that changed my life… I must comment”… It doesn’t usually happen. Within your post ask some open ended questions. Allow people to chime in with their opinion. There are a lot of outspoken people out there that would just love to give you their opinion on a subject
  6. Write good content - I hate to throw this one in here because it’s on every list that I make. However, as always, it’s true. People usually won’t have much to say for a post that they don’t feel like reading.

These are just a few of the MANY ways that you can increase the number of comments on your blog. There are many more, but this will get you started. Make sure and let me know any tips that you may have. I learn a lot from my readers.

If you don’t see an increase in comments after 30 days of trying my methods… I’ll give your money back!

I am pretty awesome. :D But, yeah, content is key because if it’s something worth commenting on, then I’ll leave a comment.

    Good advice, it works!

Bryan, do you like my blog or are you just toying with my affections!

    Angela - You’re definitely awesome!

Contamination - Of course I like your blog! What’s not to like about kooky Japanese culture?

Good advice mang. You do well with writing exactly for readers if you know what I mean.

I’ve only recently started incorporating things at the end of my blog posts like, “So what’s the big deal?” And, “If you don’t comment, you love Phil Collins.”

You know, anything to get people talking on my blog. But… I have to say that I still don’t get even close to half as many comments as you do, Bryan.

I think what I love about this blog is that it really is as good as other blogs about blogging, but we know you’re not a know-it-all. We can relate to you. That’s one of the reasons why I started reading OMG.

    See ya.

Bryan - And I’m thankful for all of you. That’s another key. Make sure and show your audience that you appreciate them. I would be lost without my readers… you guys and girls mean a lot to me!

Emma, yes, interaction is one of the best parts of blogging. It shows that your readers actually care about what you write and that they are actively participating on your blog.

Wow that changed my life, I must comment!

Just kidding, but seriously these are some great ideas. I find that thanking your commenter and/or responding to their comment is a great way for them to come back.

    Keep up the great blogging!

“What’s not to like about kooky Japanese culture?”

Kooky Japanese businessmen who stink of old tobacco and alcohol who are reading soft core porn on the train. That’s what’s not to like!

Otherwise it’s a laugh every day!
